Welcome to Second Grade and a Suggested Supply List

Hello and welcome to second grade! Chances are, if you are reading this, you probably just found out that I will be your child's teacher this year! I am looking forward to a wonderful year with the students I have gotten to know in first grade during walk to read and hopefully some of my former kiddos too!

Parents, you will want to subscribe to this blog (on the sidebar) by email so that you can be notified when I post a reminder or news about our classroom happenings! I will use this blog this year in place of a classroom newsletter, so check back often! Ojibwa is a green school and we are trying to limit our paper use so this blog will be an important means of home-school communication!

Because my move to second grade happened during the summer, I did not have input regarding a supply list. Your child will need some standard school supplies from the recommended supply list for FIRST grade and a few extras that I suggest. I will not be collecting ten dollars as specified on the Ojibwa website.

Here's what you may want for the first day of school:

backpack
a composition notebook~ black cover
standard sized pencil box
scissors Fiskars (pointed)
5 SHARPENED  #2 pencils
1 pack of mechanical pencils for handwriting
pink eraser
covered pencil sharpener
2 boxes of 24 crayons (Crayola preferred)
2 packs of fine point TWISTABLE colored pencils ( do not require sharpening)
1 bottle of antibacterial hand soap (no sanitizer needed)
paper towel or Kleenex
1 box of sandwich baggies
1 box of jumbo 2 gallon baggies
Clorox disinfecting wipes
yellow highlighter
ruler
3 (2 pocket)  folders
1 Clearview binder (clear slip-pouch on the cover) 1/2 inch (the thinnest one) for a poetry folder
1 spiral notebook
1 deck of playing cards ( for math games)
1 bottle Elmer's white glue
several glue sticks
art shirt

Donations of the following items are needed and greatly appreciated! I will post additional supply requests throughout the year. Your generosity means so much! Thank you in advance. Ojibwa parents are the best!

m&m's for a math activity
medium sized wiggle eyes
glitter~silver, gold, clear
Lego tub for indoor recess
gift certificates to any craft store or The Learning Tree for educational items and project supplies
additional clearview binders, composition books, playing cards or extra school supplies for students in need

Look for many important notes to come home in the school folder on the first day of school. Students who return their forms the next day get a special treat! Parents, you will have some homework on the first day of school!:) Thanks for helping out the office by returning the forms ASAP!

I am really looking forward to seeing everyone on the first day of school! Get a good night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, pack a lunch, bring a healthy snack you can easily eat while you work like a cheese stick or carrots, a squeeze type water bottle and a backpack filled with as many school supplies as you can fit in that backpack! Kids, meet me in line outside the front entrance on the first day with a smile on your face and all set to be a Second Grade Superstar!
